I've noticed there has been a slow grow section on the floor of oil, appearing to be coming from a very slow drip from engine but I don't know what it's coming from. Its parked on a slope which won't help. I cleaned a lot off the bottom to try and find where it's coming from. It looks as though it's coming from some sort of engine seal, as you can see a drip on the left.

You will see the last image is taken looking up into the engine, toward the sky and there is no oil leaking around this area.

I don't park my car in the exact place every time, but around that area.

Thanks.

Are you sure it's from the engine and not the gear rod seal?

if not the rod change, check the back of the block and see if there is oil on the block/box latch if so yr tappet covers have moved a little......

I'ts hard to be sure form the photo's, but from what I can see that oil seems to be more on the back of the sump than anywhere else, meaning it's probably dripping down the back of the block and in which case the fuel pump above is the most likely culprit. Ideally you need to get under there with a torch/lead lamp and look up between the bulkhead and the back of the block to see if that's where it's coming from.

EDIT: As above, tappet covers are another possible culprit in that area if it's a 998, (I always tend to forget about them though, as 1275's don't have them >_<)

+1. Looks like its coming from gear selector rod into gearbox case. Take a photo like no 5 (bottom row 3rd from the left) further under the car looking up at where Gearchange enters box.
Wipe the oil off and if and see if it re-appears.
Common problem, fix it hopefully because it does not always cure it 100% with this kit

Also get a new roll pin and the tool.
Select reverse gear to provide easier access to knock out the pin and then replace it.

It's an A series it's designed to leak lol

But seriously it will be one of the usuall suspects rod selector , drive shaft seals , as described by the posts above oil leaks down just clean the engine with a suitable degreaser then you will see where it's coming from
Gasket sets are fairly inexpensive and it's worth changing them some are a bit fiddley but easy for even a novice.

This is what I thought was causing the leak as you notice a drip here. It's hard to see without pointing it out first.

I've pointed it out in this picture below.

the drip might be there, but I hardly believe it comes from there, probably the gearselector is close to it, get under yr car and whipe it of,...and watch.......

you might want to run the engine for a bit to get the oil warm/hot

Had a good look again, and this is what I have found. Let me know what your opinion is.

looks like you might have an oil seal leak on yr differential/drive-shaft, hard to tell from here, wipe it dry and see whether it re-appears from there

As above, it's really hard to tell once everything is covered in oil like this, plus regardless of where the leak is coming from it always tend to end up on the bottom of the sump, before getting blown backwards underneath the car like it has in your pictures. Try looking higher up the engine block like I suggested earlier and if that's all clean, then you'll need to degrease and get rid of all this oil that's accumulated first, otherwise it's a bit like looking for proverbial a needle in a haystack. Once it's all clean, run the engine and get it up to temperature, then get under there have another look to try and see where it's actually coming from.

:D Matt just looked at the pictures and as someone has already said it does look like the oil seal on the gear selector link. easy to do mate.
