Can I use the minifins drums with the std. brakeshoes on a 1977 998cc?

Yes, this should work fine.

But for a 1977 car on drum brakes all round you really need the original Minifins without the cast-in spacers unless you're planning on changing all of the wheel studs and other bits as well.

Really? If you swapped from standard drums to the ones with a built in spacer you would only have about 5mm thread showing before you put the wheel on with the standard studs.

There were already spacers fitted when i got it.... I just meant no problems as far as the brake shoes

Might have been worth mentioning that, if the OP thought you meant it was all ok he might have tried fitting spacered without changing the studs. The result does not bear thinking about.

Just to add, when using the 'standard' old style Minifins without the cast in spacers on a drum braked Mini there is no spare thread left when using standard wheel studs. This is because the minifins have a slightly thicker flange than the steel drums.

Cheers guys. One of the reasons for going minifin is the spacers.. :)

New studs are needed as well then.
