Hi guys just starting a major rebuild on Sputnik, and have been busy today removing all the ancillaries from the engine bay among other things. as I am refurbishing and painting everything that comes off.

My dilemma is do I keep the servo or go non servo, I don't mind the feel of non servo assisted brakes as I have had a few minis like this in the past.

If I do swap what will I need to change?

The reason for not really wanting the servo is engine bay space and tidiness

Thanks

Steve

If you're seriously thinking about loosing the servo, then it might be worth checking with your insurance company first. They often take a dim view on what they deem to be brake downgrades from standard spec and so tend to hike premiums accordingly.

Just a thought!!  ;D

surely the insurance company wont regard ditching the servo as a downgrade? afterall a servo doesnt make the brakes any more effective or efficient, it only reduces the amount of effort required by your right leg.

although having said that, it wouldnt surprise me, they work in mysterious ways! lol

I much prefer the feel without the servo, but it might be worth trying to drive both setups and see what feels best for you.

try it with the servo pipe blanked off (not on main road)

the master cyl will work without servo assistance & feel a bit like the non servo one ?

assuming the cylinder dia is the same for both ?

I have driven and owned both servo assisted and no servo minis in the past and have had no issues with either set up, I will be changing the callipers over to 4 pots and vented discs as I will be doing some engine mods as part of the rebuild.

Good point about the insurance side of things though i will check that out.

Thanks

Steve
