Hi All,

Mini Sprite '94 - rebuild going well. nearside sill to be finished today and then its time to put the new wing on.

I am going to plug weld along the inner wing and where it joins the side panel (A panel is it?) but whats the best way to join the curve below the headlight to the front of the car. If i drill the wing to plug weld it the problem will be one of access, the hole for the plug will be above the join and I wont be able to get the welding torch in there, so should I drill the front panel and plug weld up through to the wing?

I dont have a spot welder attachment - hence my questions.

Thanks,

Rod

Do a bit of both, you can access from the top in some places, but other's you cant get to, you will have to offer it up and see where you can get to with your welding gun

Drill through the flanges and use a set of machine screws and Nylock nuts.  Works for me.

I would drill up and weld up, but also weld along that seam on the inside, that personally what I did, hopefully it'll stop rust getting through the flange from the back!

You can get in with a torch but its fiddly. I have done this on Project Erm. Access was through the headlight cutout and also from within the wheel arch. i preferred welding down not up so i persevered and it came out fine.

I drilled 3/16th holes for the plug welds and upped the power as i did not want to mess up any of the plug welds. There was not enough flange width to drill 1/4" holes which is the diameter hole of choice for plug welds.
