I suppose my question is, has anyone on here done this before? I'll be getting a Mini again soon after 7 years of driving a duel fuel Mk 4 Astra. I'm so used to paying a pittance for fuel that I'd like to convert the Mini too if possible (I'm aware that stepping down from a 1.8 16v SRI to a Mini will already dramatically reduce my fuel cosumption, but I want to go further!). I know that you need multi point injection for an LPG conversion so I'm on the hunt for a late 90's Cooper as I type. Even if I wasn't planning on the conversion, that's the Mini I would want anyway, so it won't be the end of the world if I don't end up going through with it.

Anyone done it? Anyone know of any problems I might encounter? Any advice?

Thanks,

H

I did thanks, and had already seen those pictures. I specifically wanted dialogue with any forum members who might have attempted it. Tried searching the forum but search words have to be longer than three letters, so there may well be an existing thread about LPG conversion on here.

Hmm...my LPG specialist mechanic friend told me MPI was a must. Regardless, like I said, I want a late 90's Cooper anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Boot is the obvious answer, but I'm considering other ideas too. I already know I don't want any back seat passengers (!) so would like to whip out the back seats and use the space for something else. Could potentially have some kind of enclosure back there for the tank?

That's why I suggested Google...

Searching for 'Classic Mini LPG Conversion' brings up the site above and many others including threads on here....

Cheers. I've found an old one on here now. Seems to suggest that SPI is very doable. Maybe I misheard my mechanic.

For legal reasons you will need to have the conversion done by a specialist company, so you would be best to find one and ask them their advice. See here, for example:

Please do let us know how it works out. Saving fuel costs is of interest to most of us, I would imagine!

I know you say you want an MPI anyway, but remember cars where running on autogas long before computer controlled electronic fuel injection was even thought of. Just because its called LPG now doesn't change that its plain old Propane autogas.

My Nan had a Hillman imp running on the stuff in the late 60's

was thinking about the size of the tank you would need, id be guessing that as long as it held 40l  that would be heaps and a 40l isnt to big so you could maybe fit in the boot
