Hello everyone, i've got a problem with my radio cutting out at certain volumes. I'll put it above a certain volume and the radio system will cut out, then turn back on.

After it has turned back on, if I don't change the volume, it will cut out and turn back on again.

My setup is a Sony headunit, two 6x9's under the rear seat, and a 10 inch enclosed sub in the boot.

Any ideas will be fully apreciated! :)

Thanks

Ben

Mine does the exact same thing, just before it cuts out do the lights in the head unit go dim on bass notes?

sounds to me like the sterio amp can not take the power of the speakers. so it cuts out.

hi ben do you have a extra amp other then the one fitted to your headunit? if not then you can ever buy a new sterio with a higher amp on. or buy a bass box amp and fit that in and you should not have any problems at all then. cheers tom

Does it do it straightaway at this volume or after a while?

If after a while it might be thermal protection cutting in. I.e. it gets hot and switches itself off to protect itself?

Cheers

Ian

It does it literally after you turn the volume up to a certain level, can cut out on lower volumes with certain songs, which have more bass than others

Thanks

What condition is your battery in? What is its holding idle voltage (measured 1 hour after being driven).
What your alternator outputting? 14v + ?? does the voltage go up as you switch things on and increase the load?

I changed the battery this weekend, and its stopped doing it! Although its a big battery I had to replace, 600 A EN rating. But im not sure what alternator I have. Assuming it's standard, will I need to upgrade to a high rating alternator?

Thanks for all the help so far guys :)
