Just been reading through a few threads and want to make sure I am doing this properly. I am re-shelling (with a new BMH shell) a 78 GT but I am using new parts wherever possible, this includes a brand new engine and gearbox. Are there any issues with this? Interior including steering, clocks etc will remain original. Of course where suspension needs to be replaced it will be with new.

I have the original engine but had the opportunity to buy a brand new one, which I thought would be better.

Thanks for any advice

By brand new engine you mean rebuilt? Depends who done the rebuild, but assuming its by someone reputable and you have the funds then that's the way to go. Just make sure its set up right for running in.

Then it keeps the original registration. Replacement components from the original manufacturer count as maintenance parts.

I think all the old stock has now gone, probably soon after when Rover collapsed in 2005. You can, however, get a reconditioned engine from Mini Spares etc.

Nope, it's brand new, last one left, complete engine and box. Good to know that new parts are included in a re-shell. Put my mind at rest.

Why would you go the expense of reshelling a 1275GT with a heritage shell to fit a 998 to it?

Depends what spec engine you are after.  There is plenty of new, unused stock of some types available.

Wow you are one very luck guy lol! I suppose it will need running in for a while so you'll have to keep it easy. Is it injection/carb??

Yep, very lucky, will be fitting twin carbs to it eventually. Plan on having it serviced by my local garage as per any car once complete. Also plan on using it as much as possible. It's a 1275 unit.
