sorry to sound like a little brat, but i am now desperate for more power.

i cant find any engines at anything like a sensible price, i know the price of 1275 engines is going up all the time, but i have missed a few bargains recently too.

im currently running a very low mileage 998 engine, with a stage1 kit. i have contemplated changing the cam and head, but i cant help but think i will wish i had put that money towards going for a 1275 (or bigger)

the suspension and brakes are all sorted, but until i have a bit more grunt under the bonnet im losing sleep obsessing about it!

grrrrrrrr! curse these high prices! lol

Strip the car out? Acceleration is all about power/ weight. If you want it to pull away quicker and handle better, loose the extras. Lightweight buckets, alloy everything, minimal toolkit...

all my previous minis have been like that, my last one i went totally nuts on and changed loads of stuff to alloy..... calipers, hubs, drums, drive flanges. no interior other than a seat and a wheel. i was even drilling bolts out!

this car is my daily though so i cant go too mad with it, hence the need for more grunt!

Cheaper and more reliable power is available here:

http://www.16vminiclub.com/forums/

Small and Large Block Vauxhall (c16se / C20XE ) http://www.allspeede...-only-18-detail

"As a guide an entry level 1.4 8v mpi vauxhall conversion offers improved performance and reliability over an average 1380 A series, a 1.6 8v mpi vauxhall gives average gti performance through to the honda and large block vauxhall conversion giving more serious performance."

A well tuned 1275 with simple mods and running 100% will be quick but its never going to be a rocket,

Cheapest is said above to strip it all out but that isn't the best option for a daily really,

Putting a Vaux engine in would be great but unless you can do most the work yourself wont work out that cheap and if its a daily I guess you need it on the road,

So tuning your current engine could be a answer or to get a 1275 thats slightly tuned and and get in over the weekend :)

OR

Get a cheap hot hatch like 106 gti or something and keep the mini as the every day :)

Insurance is another killer as if you are young-ish then claiming an engine conversion could change the price loads and they may not even insure you so would be an idea to ask them if you are serious with the idea :)
