Hi everyone I'm new to the forum well I used to be on here about 5 years ago.. My name is Dan greetings to all I have brought a third mini :) I had a 1380 before by Morspeed my current car has a mg metro 1275 engine and I am having problems with the oil light coming on... It is fine until driven at speed as on dual carriageway ect but then when I come to roundabout my oil light comes on.

I have changed the oil and filter using 20/50 engine oil
My first thought is the oil maybe getting too hot? Although have never need a cooler on any of my other cars and they were quite high output engines.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Best regards Dan

Mileage of engine is unknown unfortunately but doesn't appear to to be breathing heavy and very oil tight for a mini :/

I take it there is no oil pressure gauge.  Do you know what pressure switch is fitted?

sounds like a tired engine and the old problem of the oil running away from the oil pick up pipe in the sump when cornering. Whats the oil pressure like cold and hot?

I have not checked the pressure with a gauge.. I'm am unsure which pressure switch is fitted is their a way of finding out... It only see,s to happen when driven hard which I know is not a good idea but when working on Landrovers every day it's hard not to have a little burst

its and old problem with higher mileage cars, the oil thins down when hot and if your oil pressure is low the pump struggles to draw oil from the sump. On a standard car the oil pick up filter is located to one side of the sump, the answer used for many years is a central oil pick up pipe (plus an engine rebuild to adress low oil pressure)

You may find an oil change may help but its putting off the inevitable

Yes I am well aware of the central pick up pipe. I have not long changed the oil the inevitable needs to what I while while funds allow for a well built motor

I would get a oil pressure gauge installed and find out what the oil pressure is.

^^ an oil pressure gauge is cheap and easy to fit and you will know for sure if you have low pressure when idling.
