This may seem a stupid question but my dad has a shed next to his garage with various engines in I have found a 1275 head next to a block I'm not sure if the block is 1275 though is there anyway that I can tell like markings etc?

Cheers Jake

If you look at the back of the block it should have no tappet chest access panels there

look for a riveted plate on the top face..

If its a mini block

number beginning

99 = 998

12 = 1275

10 = 1098

If no plate look at rear of block if there are 2 rectangle plates or even 2 holes where there should be plate, strong chance not a 1275 but not definitive

  All large bore castings have 2 core plugs on the rear end of the engine above the clutch, where the steady bar attaches.  All small bores have only 1.

Apologies, you're right.  I've been reminded of that previously too.

  I'd sort of just assumed you couldn't for some unknown reason, like the engine was built and you didn't want to open it but if it really is just a block it would be quite easy!
