Assuming you have taken off the bracket for the radiator too. Then its a case of wiggling the housing until it comes clear. The gasket can be holding it all together

a light tap with a wooden mallet can help

They can really stick themselves to the studs, be careful not to lever something between the iron cyliner head and the alloy housing to pry it up, a few small taps should work!

I am sure the theromstat housing is the same as a manual, ie round-ish. When I was servcing a friends car for the first time after he bought it, I ended up breaking it away in bits it was that stuck, but I had a spare in my garage I used that was in good nick. It must have been the original, it was very warped and backfilled with silicone as a temp fix / bodge.

Are you talking about the engine steady bracket?

Can almost guarantee its just the bolts in the thermostat housing have rusted, give it a good soaking in penetration oil and give it a few taps till it comes loose.
In a few cases i have had to cut the aluminium housing, round the bolts to get it off.
