Okay, so my mini is my daily and I need to use her tomorrow morning, today I changed the thermostat and gasket but snaped one of the studs, will this be okay for my drive for tomorrow and do you know of any quick fixes to prevent any possible leakage?

Thank you for any help.

You will probably have some form of leak even if you tighten the remaining studs as tight as you dare. I think I'm right in saying the best option is to replace the broken stud.

However some form of bodge with instant gasket/sealant or the likes might see you a week or two

you could try removing it the stat housing, extract the stud and welding a bit threaded bar onto it for tomorrow only (i have seen this on a mini quite a few times)

It will definately leak just using two studs, as the system is pressurised, you could try slapping loads of sealant round it and hope for the best, but depends how much you have to use the mini.

Why not just whip the stud out and replace it?

Easiest way iv always found using random bits you will have lying around is drill a small hole in the middle if the broken stud, then hammer a star pattered "drill bit" not sure the exact name, and undo using this.

The main reason the snap is dues to corrosion between the aluminium housing. So once you start undoing from below they usually come straight out, if not just drill out and tap a new thread....

Okay thanks for that, I will do a 5 minute drive tomorrow to get her up to temp, if the is leaking I just wont bother with college, and I have a mate who works on rally cars, I will drop it to him to renew all the studs.

cheers guys! ♥
