Hi guys just wondering if its worth the money me getting a ported head on my 1275? I already have a full maniflow exhaust with manifold and lcb. I am currently setting up my twin carbs and I'm getting it rolling roaded soon so would rather get the head now. Plus are there any other parts I would need to get as well the actual head or any you would recommend?

Always worth fitting a ported head if there is one about, a few more bhp and better fuel economy...

If you go for an upgraded head then you really need to think about the camshaft as well to reap any benefits. There is plenty of choice out there and it boils down to what you want from your engine and car.

Yeah was looking at the camshafts as well going to end up pretty expensive I was thinking of selling up after MITP but who knows, will it have a noticeable power increase with just the head? Or would you recommend getting the cam before the head?

As as for better fuel economy how does that work I thought it would be worse

Depends how restrictive the current head is, standard 12g940?

Your fuel economy on full chat will be worse, that extra energy has to come from somewhere

I've fitted a ported head to my mainstream carb cooper, added a stage 1 kit and a ramair filter. The cam is still stock cam in a 85k engine.

Following a rolling road I've got 78.4 bhp, factory was 61.

Fuel economy is dreadful but that's because I drive like an idiot!

Strap on a good head and enjoy.

Haha, well if it shifts why do you want to make it faster?  I thought that was half of the appeal of a mini, you can rag it and never once break the speed limit :P

You can find out by just removing the rocker cover, there will be a number on the head between the two centre pushrod holes.

Chances are it is a 12g940 and a small valved one at that, I assume the sprite/rio didn't have a high performance head.

You would therefore probably notice a difference if you fitted a ported big valve head, and obviously even more so with a cam upgrade :)
