Hi. Got a 1991 998 with ballasted coil.

I am going to fit a powerspark ignition kit and need to take a feed from the fuse box.

Do I take it from the fused or un-fused side?

Cheers

Jim

The ballast wire comes from the top fuse anyway which is switched live from the ignition. I have not fitted one of your kits yet but would imagine you would need to run your live feed from there.

Normally from the unfused side (white wires). You don't want the engine cutting ouit if the fuse blows due to overload by some other less important thing.

But there is no reason why you can not add an extra fuse specifically to protect the ignition system only.

Nice idea. I guess a switch in line in addition would make a handy immobiliser too.

A switch to earth off the -ve side of the coil makes a craftier immobiliser.

Personally I'd never fuse ignition, it's just something else to fail (at the most inopportune moment) and you should be within easy reach of the ignition switch whenever it's turned on.

yes when points open and shut they are connecting the negative side of the coil to earth when points are closed..when they open you get the spark at the points.

So if you fit the immobiliser switch so it makes a permanent contact between earth and the negative coil terminal it cant spark.

Don't like this at all. But anyway according to the drawings I have, everything ignition dependent is fused in any case.

Coil is non fused Captain...it takes a feed from the white wires in the loom...white wires are ignition switched non fused...The greens are ignition switched fused.
