What engine spec is it and what map have you used as a starting point?
Megajolt has a 'limp home' feature, where if the mj box isn't connected/working the edis will give a fixed 10 degrees advance, which will be enough to start the engine.
For a first start just make sure everything is as it should be, trigger wheel and sensor correct, dizzy drive removed etc and spin it over.

Well if it's running and driving you've got over the biggest hurdle. Now you can either play around with the map yourself on the road (if you buy a adapter to connect the mj to a sub slot(see Amazon)) and get it to what feels best or take it to a rolling road and get someone who knows what they're doing to tweak the map to find what makes the best power curve.

You really need a lead to be able to tune it properly. You can get a USB to serial adapter, the compatibility issue isn't so bad, I use an ebay cheaply (translucent turquoise ) it does all but flash firmware. You'll also need to cobble together a rj45 to db9 lead (unless you mj is an oldy) - ebay again. You'll then be able to try out adjustments as you're driving along (best to have a copilot to operate the lap to!), or use the 2nd map option for an optition style "better or worse" session.
Without a lead the most you could do is use you strobe to the actual advance you are getting, using the edis limp home.

Mine only cost a couple of quid, but having a garage lappy to not worry so much about grubby fingers is a good idea anyway.
