Hi, am in desperate need of help. For the first time in 5 years I'm just not enjoying driving my mini because of this problem! :(

I've been taking it to my local garage over and over again complaingin of a slight mis-fire. It is only slight but it's definitely there and it was doing my head in. It's when the engine is warm in any gear when under slight strain, and really struggling to pass 60mph. Each time the garage said they couldn't find anything and charged me £50 for the pleasure.

Recently I've started driving around with the choke half way out and this seems to solve the problem, but I surely this isn't good for the engine and I can feel the car trying to run on when trying to slow down.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

OK, I'm sure TMF can help!

Firstly, is it only when driving, or if you sit and hold the revs through the rev range is it doing it when you've got your head under the bonnet.

Next, is the dashpot oil fairly full, and do you know what is in the dashpot?

And lastly (for now) when was it last serviced, how old are the plugs, leads, points (or elec ignition)?

Give us some clues and we'll get you on your way!

... oh, and do you have a timing light, and has the CO been checked?

Mike

Thanks very much Mike

It's only noticeable when driving, out of gear revving up it sounds pretty good. I think dashpot is as full as it should be, don't know what's in it though. Since having this problem (about 500 miles/10 months ago) I've changed air filter, plugs and leads and asked for a full oil change at garage to little or no effect.

Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it!

John

What type of engine/tune is it? if its does not misfire with the choke out sounds weak posssibly caused by a air leak spray around the inlet to head gasket with wd40 and se if it revs up? what has the garage set the co to ? may be just set weak if no leaks?

It's just a standard 1275 1992 engine. Thanks, will try spratying with WD40, see if it changes

may also need the timing checked, do you get a slight rattly noise when its struggling? if so the engine could be pinking (suffering from pre-igniton) see if you can get the timing checked and adjusted
