My choke cable is horrible. Notchy and reluctant to return fully so am going to change it.
engine earth strap is ok so know that's not caused it, unless it was a prob that the previous owner sorted...

My question is this.

Is it generally the outer sheath that causes problems or the cable itself?

I was toy ing with the idea of cutting the lever off and then drawing the new one through the existing sheath into the engine bay.

Is this do-able and is there any merit to trying?

I must confess to not having looked at how it's all attached at the dash end so may well be talking out of my not inconsiderable rear.

You may have a sprung wire in the cable itself which is binding in the sleeve. To be honest change the complete thing. Its easy to do and at least you will be safe in the knowledge its good to go. Plus they are very reasonable price wise.

Its attached to the dash via a locknut assembly and obviously at the other end its attached to the carb by a pinch bolt .

Yeah thought it would be better to change the lot. Just remembering what a pain it was to do on my mk1 fiesta about a million years ago.

Thanks for the advice.

No problem. Fitted one to my Clubman a while ago and what a difference. Nice and smooth and took me less than an hour to fit it along with a fettle of the panel for good measure.

Out of interest, are the universal cables ok or do I need mini specific?

I bought mine from Minispares so it was specific to type. These generic ones you see have to be cut to size which if not done well can cause problems.
