Would a mini engine last, going 100miles (50 each way) everyday doing 60mph on motorway? Engine is in good condition and just passed mot. I have been using diesel 2.5l van and its thirsty, and thinking my 1.3 mini standard would be more fuel efficient?

No reason why it shouldnt, as long as you keep it looked after (oil, spark plugs etc) :P

should be fine,  just you will need to keep way more ontop of it than a modern car

I was doing around 60 a day in my 79 and it let me down twice. Both times electrical one of which fixed in 10 mins one slightly more firey! Really though can't complain too much started no problems what ever the weather and even the heater worked well.

Cool! What do you reckon to the fuel efficiency? Do you think it will be better than a 2.5 heavy van?

my 1275 hif38 stage one did 56mpg the standard 998 did 30 - 37 and my standard mpi does 40-50 on the motorway. its noticably more economical at 60 than 70 lol

I do a 300 mile round trip every other weekend, my 998 with stage one stuff gets about 50mpg on the journey, which is pretty much all motorway, and (touch wood) its been reliable so far (last 10 months)

Doing somewhere between 600-700 miles this weekend in my Mini, did a simular journey last year with no issues and managed around 40-45mpg. Then the weekend after I'm doing the L2B another 500 or so mile round trip!

Lots of Mini driving the next week or so  :D

Yes no reason why it shouldn't be reliable if looked after. I used to do a 60 mile round trip in my mini every day for two years. It only ever let me down once when a radiator hose split, but even then I managed to limp it home so I could repair it.

I have to say I wouldn't go back to doing that though. I've got too used to the comfort / space / economy / safety of my modern car.
