Well the A3 was a bit better than I was expecting. I used to wonder why people would spend 20plus K on a 2.0TDi BMW/Audi/Merc, just for the brand name when they could get a better spec car if they went for a less premium model. I had the 1.6 TDi today, and actually I can see why it is such a popular engine. The pick up was good and it cruised nicely. It felt solidly put together and was actually quite nice to drive, although I did have a bit of a backache when I got out.

Still, I wouldn't spend 20odd k on one, even if I had the money.

My wifes Ibiza has the 1.6 tdi engine and it's rubbish. It's rubbish on fuel, you've got to drive it like it's stolen. Still, it wasn't anywhere near 20k

What bhp version is it though? I've got a Caddy with the 102 bhp but they do a 75 bhp version of the same engine which might be in the Ibiza, it must suck in a fully laden Caddy!
It's either 105 or 115bhp.

Should be ok then but I guess it depends what you are comparing it too, has the £1200 EGR gone on it yet? Mine has, paid £723 for a specialist vag garage to do it, it's all good fun!ha

Nope. It's a 2012 with only 28k on it

The issue is, I've got a Mazda 6 2.2 TD which is a lovely car.

The Ibiza is going in January and I hope to buy a Bora VR6 4motion and she'll have the Mazda

I used to drive Beemers all the time, until I had a Skoda Octavia VRS estate 5 yrs ago - what a top car (apart from eating fuel though, such fun).  Went back to a 318D for the economy (got to stress I buy them 2nd hand about 2 - 3 yrs old and dont pay silly money!!).  I decided this year to look for a diesel VRS estate, but prices on them have shot up over past 3 yrs and really hold their value - everytime I called about one it was sold - so I ended up with another 318D but an estate - definitely not exciting but fuel economy is brilliant and I never get a bad back from driving these.  Really came into its own driving from Gloucester to Germany last week all on one tank including driving around for a week.  Filled it up as much as possible before coming back as Diesel in Holland was only 1.11 Euro so about 85 pence a litre!

These are a bargain! I have the Audi version or is the Skoda a version of the Audi? :)

I would of had the VRS though the quattro sold it for me.

Well, in my defence I am used to a 1.8 Focus and compared to that it was decent enough!

Like I said though, wouldn't spend the money on one!

I also try to buy second hand 3-Series BMW's at a good price (also have an 2002 R50 MINI as a daily).........my current 3-Series is a 2006 E90 320D SE auto which recently took us on holiday from London to the Mediterranean coast of the South of France on one tank of diesel, brilliant fuel economy with good comfort and excellent performance when needed.

A lot is down to personal preference anyway - believe me I'm a tight ar*e Jock and I wouldnt spend £20k on a car, my current one cost just under £10k - with a bit of negotiation - its 4 yrs old (which is usually not what I go for) but only had 17k genuine miles, so with selling in my old 318D (OK it was an M Sport) with 75k miles, I hardly had to part with much cash at all.  Maybe I have been lucky for a long time, but none of my beemers have ever let me down (unlike a couple of fords and a vauxhall I have had) so I guess that is why I stick with them - still miss my VRS though ;D

I completely agree with you! I am seriously wanting a 190 MG ZT-T next. There is one on the MG-Rover forum in yellow, with a full leather interior (not for sale though). Looks the nuts.

Edit: Fourth post down this page is the yellow one I was talking about. Not sure if you will be able to see the pics if not a member though.
