Oil Leek From Cv Joint

lately i have noticed i have a oil leek. so today i had  look to find were it is coming from. it seem to be from the cv joint :( will this mean i need to replace the joint or is there a way i can manage with the old as i cant afford to replace them? tomorrow morning is my day off so have a good look and hopefully get the job done.

If oil is on the inner pot joint more than likely it's coming out of the diff, it's just a case of popping the joint of and replacing the oil seal. although there is a chance oil could be coming from above, I.e tappet inspection covers (on a 998), timing cover.

Agree, sounds like the diff oil seal is shot. Not an expensive job to do yourself.

oil coming out of the diff, haha that reminded me of this 

 

 

on a more formal side yehp pot joint seals prob stuffed, drain the oil remove axles and pop them off and remove and fit new seals reverse to reassemble and dont forget the oil , good time to do a filter and oil change

And a good time to change the CV boots and re-grease them if they're old.

 

I'm glad I did mine when I did the oil seals! It turned out there was no grease at all in one of the pot joints. The worst part was there were 2 or 3 of the balls missing out of the pot joint!!!  :X  :X
