Is This The Right Part?

Best Answer lrostoke , 23 May 2013 - 11:24 AM

If that u bolt is holding the hanger bracket then should be able to adjust it a bit I'd think.

Supposed to be fairly tight or else it would just bounce around :)

Hey people.

The rear rubber to secure exhaust to body of my car is badly worn as shown in photo below. Another mini owner gave me a new part but I'm not sure if its right? :

Looking at that it looks like some bodged up silencer and fitting.

looks like its touching the battery box shouldn't be that far across.

and the hanger on the subframe looks to be held on by that U bolt.

Later models did use rubber hangers but yours is some DIY effort so you'll have to see if it fits

Why is the exhaust on the wrong side of the car?

Thanks for reply. It's not a mini exhaust and has been moved to centre. I didn't think it touched the battery box but will have another look. Ah ok. The new part seems to similar size but looks different and doesn't seem to stretch well.

Was thinking about changing it this afternoon but worried about taking the original rubber off but then can't drive it.

Lol the exhaust was moved to centre by previous owner. I think it's just the angle of the photo that makes it look further right

If you want to keep that exhaust, which should probably be replaced with something more appropriate really, the best thing would be to fabricate a new hanger bracket for the subframe.  Exhaust hangers are meant to the vertical-ish really, and not so stretched.  I would say the new one you have been given is the same as the one fitted now, but the original has been forced to fit and so been destroyed.

There is a small gap between exhaust and battery box.

Ah that makes sense. Was thinking about one day changing exhaust but at the moment it'll do. Bit short of money after paint job and getting ultralites refurbished next week.

Got the new one fitted :)

It took forever to get the old one off. Had to cut it off. The U bracket was over tightened and twisted round so I couldn't easily get to the two bolts to loosen them. That prob explains why the old one ended up in condition it was lol
