just signed up to the forum after buying my first car, a 1983 mini Mayfair :) I'm 18 and have always loved mini's so i'm excited to finally have one of my own.

me and my dad are now starting a restoration (but mostly my dad), hopefully it will be ready by the time I've passed my driving test in july :)

well theres nothing major mechanical that needs doing so its mostly bodywork, the worst being the A panels, doors and rear valance which have all been replaced already

here it is as we bought it

planning to put the smaller mk1 rear lights and the wavy front grille on it, the rest will be left original including the engine, the interior was in pretty good condition so will probably leave it as original too

Hey, you're doing what I want to! :D  I've not passed my test yet but I'm looking for a mini to either finish the project or just buy a restored one. Have you had a look at insurance on her? All the places I've tried to get rough figures from refuse to give me a quote until I tell them a registration number >_<

Thank you :)
I had a quick look at insurance when I bought it and the cheapest was £1600, but I'm not sure if i qualify for the young drivers classic insurance that some companies have started as I don't have a second car to drive, I just went on compare the market to get a rough figure

Just shop around, and always call to get the best quote. You'll be ok!
Mini will look good, you'll enjoy it!
