here is my Mayfair  as I bought it 3 weeks ago, we were quite pleased with the find which will be keeping my dad busy over the next couple of months.we're planning on changing it slightly by adding the early style lights and front grille, as in my opinion, the mk1 look the best, but buying one was a bit out of my budget. When we found it, it had been off the road for 10 years, but did start and was driven onto the trailer for the ride home back to Yorkshire

Its been keeping my dad pretty busy over the past couple of weeks, and has made quite a lot of progress, all the welding is almost finished, rear valance has been replaced, along with a repair section for the boot hinge panel.

boot floor has also been repaired in the corners as the rest of the floor was still in good condition

He has also added in the panel to change the original light fittings so I can have the early type lights fitted

here is a photo of the repair done to the passenger side floor

As well as this other work already done include:

-the subframe has been removed, and is due to have a few minor holes repaired before being fitted back in

-there were some rust holes under the drivers side rear window which have been repaired

-A new A panel and door skin have been fitted to the drivers side, as well as a repair under the top of the front wing
-drivers side floor has also been repaired

I'll hopefully add some more photos of its progress soon

Looking forward to reading about other peoples projects, but as i'm finishing my final year at college i'm supposed to be revising right now.... the mini is proving to be quite a good distraction :/

it'll be my everyday car, once I've managed to pass my test that is, It's coming across some reasonably priced insurance that will be the most difficult thing to do

Hey I know its been a while since my last post but things have been busy, and so has my dad with the rebuild. The passengers side now has a new door skin, door repair section for the bottom, A-panel and a repair under the rear window. Both wings have also been repaired on the inside at the top.

Now that all the welding is complete, it didn't take long to fill around some of the welds and get it ready for painting which we're going to pick up this afternoon :)

Its going to be mostly original with a couple of small changes to make it look older like a wavy grille, smaller rearlights, smaller rear number plate light and chrome door handles, its also going to be painted speedwell blue which is much more of a sixties colour than the original metallic

Thank you shouldn't take too much longer now:) been quite an expensive day today, took a short trip to mini spares at harrogate and bought quite a few bits. We then couldn't resist trying some of them on when we got home...
first we bolted the tail lights on to see what they looked like, even though they aren't properly fitted yet, the bumper is one that came in the car when we bought it, it's clearly been knocked about abut before and has a couple of rust spots but it got a quick clean up and now fits in quite nicely

the next job was to start on the front, my dad had already fitted one headlamp using all the fittings that were on the car originally before we took our shopping trip, so first job when we got back home was to fit the other one. The right hand headlamp rim had rusted quite a bit so a replacement was taken from my dads Austin A35 van that he finished restoring last year. After that the new bumper was fitted with the new mk1 grille and surround. one of the indicators is the original, but the metal bulb holder had rusted in the other one so it was replaced with a new indicator unit....Attached File  04062013088.jpg   68.94K   12 downloads

while we were at minispares, my dad tried getting the Austin mini script for the boot, only to be told that they weren't available as BMW had complained about them, even though BMW have nothing to do with classic mini's... Just wondering if other people have had similar issues trying to buy new mini badges recently...

Almost there!!!!!!!! its starting to look like a complete car again :)

The headlining has been fitted, (we put the original one back in to save buying a new one), all the windows are in, doors are on and fully built up, interior is all back in (the seats have cleaned up really nicely to say they are 30 years old). Instead of fitting the original padded dash which i wasn't really keen on and was in a bit of a state anyway, we decided to cover the lower dash in black vinyl instead which my dad did a good job with and it looks alot better!

The rear side panels that go underneath the rear windows had curled up and had fallen off when we got it, but that was soon fixed by flattening them under a heavy box and they now fit really nicely.

On the outside of the car, the original black door and boot handles have been swapped for chrome ones, as well as a chrome petrol filler cap, new chrome windscreen wipers and new wheel arch trims

The back of the car certainly has a sixties look about it with the mk1 rear lights (now fully wired up and working as when they were first connected the brake and rear lights were the wrong way round as on the new light units the wires needed connecting red to green, not red to red). As well as the lights it now has a hinged number plate and a chrome number plate light and an 'Austin Mini' script on the boot which i think gives it a finishing touch...
