Check what happens if you wiggle some wires that come from the ignition barrel as they connect up with the rest of the loom just after they come out of the plastic steering column cowling. Mine cuts out if these get knocked....
will check this out over the weekend did you find a way to stop it?

is the piston sticking in the carb? when it cuts out is it when you come to a stop or slow down at traffic lights ect? I had problems with mine that sometimes the pistion would jam and unless you kept the revs it would cut out.

yeh that sounds like mine it when i come to slow down and stop and it just konks out. i have no idea about engines ino what the carb it i did change the little needle part that let the fule threw. where is the piston on the carb? thanks tom

the piston is the bit you take out that the needle fits in. if i were you i would take the top of the carb apart and clean it up. When i did it to mine it had no obvious cause of the sticking but touch wood it has not done it since.

if the carb piston is ok how can you tell? if it is ok what would you look at then i will check the ignition barrel to. it does sound electrical tho as it suddentley cuts out when stopping. and when i go to restart it it just keeps spinning over and then i try again and it fired up? if the piston was sticking does that mean my engine is not getting fuel then? thanks tom

depends how and when its sticking. when i took mine off the piston came out with the dashpot! if it stays as normal it could still be sticking but just not when you look at it. If its sticking it will mean sometimes its overfueling (when trying to start it may well be flooding and therefore not starting) when flat out it will be under fueling. it may not simply stick and stay there it may and most likley still move and even behave normally from time to time.
again it could be electrcs but electrical problems will happen at any time any revs and any conditions so if you only having problems as the revs come down it would suggest to me its ok.
when you keep trying to start it will it eventually fire but run really rough?

i think if i can get it to do it again ile whip a spark plug out and try starting it if i dont get a spark there then thats the problem then? if there is spark its fueling problem? when it starts back up it runs nice. its not doing it everytime it happend 2 weeks ago on the way to himley show and just suddentley cut out as i was doing 30mph and it done it twice Thursday morning when slowing down. but in the two weeks from himley show to Thursday its drove nice it even drove nice all the way to stourport on Sunday but these days are when its warm in the air the days it cuts out was on the mornings where its abit cols in the air? could the air temperature be at fault here?

There probably is a way of solving this properly but like everything on my mini it's bodged with a cable tie holding the wires in the right place... Im Not recommending this solving the fault properly would be the best way.
