I have an A+ diff that might need some overhauling one of the output shafts seems to have alot of end float not sure what it should be ?

I also have an earlier A series gearbox and diff are any of the earlier A diff parts usable in the A+ diff ?

The A+ diff is off a 1300 metro engine

The A series diff is off 998 cc

Thanks In advance The Lime in Canada

I don't think there are any major differences in the diff itself. The A+ thrust washers have a tab to stop them spinning 'n the cage will be machined to suit. No endfloat figure I know of, shimming the endplate to set the preload on the bearings ought to take care of that.

A+ diff cage every time.... I would suggest that 99% of A series diff cages have been damaged by the bronze thrust rotating and wearing the iron diff cage. Once this is done the cage is damaged beyond repair and if used will always be loose.

This is the reason the tab was introduced in the A+, stops the thrust rotating and hence stops the wear on the cage.

If I do find a good A series diff cage, it gets put to one side and when I have enough, go off and the groove for the tab is machined into them.

PS. Both diffs will need overhauling anyway, never put a diff in a gearbox without changing the pin, unless you know for sure that the pin is ok, or it's a x-pin.
