Hello folks!

Finally got around to replacing the steering wheel on the Minster today and annoyingly the old wheel decided to take some thread with it, does anybody have any idea what size the thread for the steering wheel nut is so I can rethread the column?

Thank you :-)  :-) :-)

None whatsoever, and I doubt it's a standard thread either....

Before considering repairing a ropey thread, consider the implications of what would happen if the wheel fell off

Thanks to those who have replied, Just to update it's only taken a tiny bit off the top, would filing it down work? There is still plenty of thread left on it, it's just the very tip, thanks again.

I tried looking this one up a while back, it is odd-ball.

It's 5/8" x 28 TPI.

If it's just the top few threads then yes file them. but make sure when tight that the nut is fully on to good threads. If not then time to buy a new column.

Just don't do what they did to a friends car, smeared a bunch of JB weld over the end of the nut.....I might have been able to save it but I replaced the shaft, bushings and nut.

That one with the JB Weld,,,,, YUK and what were they thinking?

If it's any help, the top of the Dashpot on an SU Carb also has the same thread.

Spider - I would rarely disagree with you, but the old style SU damper cap thread is 11/16 inch x 26tpi thread pitch. It's an old British Brass thread type.
