That one with the JB Weld,,,,, YUK and what were they thinking?

 

If it's any help, the top of the Dashpot on an SU Carb also has the same thread.

I know, when I sent the owner these pics he was agast, but happy that I found it and did a proper repair.

Spider - I would rarely disagree with you, but the old style SU damper cap thread is 11/16 inch x 26tpi thread pitch. It's an old British Brass thread type.

Are these just the old types with the Brass Caps, or all?

 

Sorry for going O/T but do you know if the Dust Proof Caps are still available?

The brass caps and the plastic caps on the older dashpots use the same thread and are fairly interchangeable.

 

Good news is that just about all of these caps are available from Burlen, who remanufacture SU carb spares from the original drawings. Link: http://sucarb.co.uk/
