I've used the MGB filter in the past to increase the filtration capability and the oil capacity and have had no problems.

The MBG is a 'B'-series engine and is very similar in design to the 'A'-series, just a bit bigger.

Yep, seems whoever designed the tappets on the A series designed them on the B series - they both used to like spalling at quite low mileages.

Did you not have problems with clearance on the subframe?

How much bigger is the MGB filter?

An MGB filter clears the sub-frame. I haven't used one for a while as I change the filter very often and I have an oil cooler.
