Real quick and easy one for you all.

My build is approaching completion (once I build the front enclosures) and I'm still torn about the last detail, namely whether to run active or not.

The set up is as follows:

DEH 80PRS

Genny sub @ 2ohm into a JL 10w6

Genny P4 @ 4ohm into Genny 16.03

Initially I was just going to chuck them in with the X-overs and bridge the P4 for a healthy 180w per channel.

But now I'm considering either running all 4 output channels separating the mids and tweets or as I've read (on here I think) running the mids bridged still and powering the tweeters off the HU amp, which is supposedly more than sufficient to keep them balanced.

So the options are:

HU -> P4 (bridged) -> passive x-over -> mids/tweets

HU -> P4 -> mids

                -> tweeters

HU -> P4 (bridged) -> mids

      -> tweeters

What say you learned chaps?

Cheerios,

Fully active, amp everything, don't use the headunit.

Gains flat on the tweeters and set to just under clipping on the mids and sub.
If you do want more mid punch pick up a P2 for the tweeters and use the p4 bridged for the mids.

Your ear will pick up any strain or noise in the high frequency. Your right in thinking that very little power for tweeters is needed, but what you do need is a quailty clean amped signal. Most amps built in to headunits have some mech noise and a higher noise floor than a 'real' amps output.

Excellent, thanks matey!

I've got to put the enclosures together first, but I'll run them active all off the P4 once it goes in. If it turns out not to gel well I can always drop the passive X-overs in.

Tried the auto set up thing on the PRS, seemed to work well enough but I'll maybe have to lean on your experience for help with a set up once it's ready.

active if you have good speakers you want to give them a good push with amp, having it all built in tight helps saving space (good for minis)

active is also easy to put in and take out if needs be, a crossover may be needed for sending the right frequency to the right speaker tho
