Hello all

I had a look through the forum about changing my sills but I couldn't find how to remove the jacking point. From looking at it an outer plate which surronds the jacking hole is spot welded on and this needs to be removed but I cant see how this is attached to the jacking support ( http://www.minisport...fo_14A8374.html ). Would someone be able to point me in the right direction on how to take this off then put it back together with new sills. From looking on the minispares site they dont seem to sell just this outer reinforcement which is spot welded on, what should i do about that piece?

Thanks Craig

If you are talking about the square piece outside the sill, it comes on the new sill, and you can just grind through it.

It then needs to be plug welded on to the jacking point behind, but most dont do that. I'm removing my jacking points, as I wouldnt dare use them!

I shall have some fun grinding tomorrow!

Like said the external doubler should come with the new sill. The actual jacking point is normally spot welded to the inner sill and spot welded to the outer sill. I seam welded the jacking point to the inner sill on Project Paddy but only after it was positioned correctly in relation to the outer sill.

The internal mount attaches in two separate place on the outer will. Roughly 3 or 4 spot welds by the jacking point hole and the roughly six inches behind this another flange with another 3 or 4 spot welds.

I tried removing the spot welds today but it seams to have been seam weld around the inner jacking square. Is this normal? should i just grin down the seam weld until i get to the jacking support?

It shouldn't have so sounds like it may have been replaced in the past. Yes grind down round the edges until you get to it.

i has all the other spot welds as described by someones useful diagram on here, maybe as its a newer spi they changed how it was attached? Should I add this seam weld when I put the replacements on?

You can do as it will help to seal around the edges. I will have a look at my mate mainstream Cooper shortly to see if that was seam welded around the edge as that has the original sills on it.
