Am running 1293 eaton s\c using injection and Emerald ECU. Its all new, ie new pistons (re-bore from 1275 to 1293). Its running very rich, to the point of getting very very sooty black smoke from exhaust when flooring it or just revving it. Its going back for a re-map very soon, but just want to know if the engine internals are getting any premature wear with increased fuel into the chambers? The spark plugs are very very sooty, and the engine oil, although the level is fine, is getting blacker and now starting to smell of fuel.

bore washing is your biggest concern I would think, this may well prevent your rings bedding in

Hmm, I ran it initially for the first 1000 or so miles using HIF44 carb, but then upgraded to injection for the past few hundred miles. Hopefully its not done any long term damage. The engine oil does not look as if its thinned out too much, it just smells more or oil than it did before injection setup. Will do oil and filter change before re-map.

I would not run it to long if the engine is that rich, can still cause ring wear due to breakdown of oil

Its under a cover until I fit the new alloy rad, plus 6 blade fan (although looking at the metal fan it may foul the pulley belt) and then get it back to rolling road for re-map.

I wouldn't be running anymore in that condition with a new engine. With an older engine at least you have a bit of bore glaze to save you.
