As mentioned what ever height I seem to put my rear h/l at it always seems to hit arches new dampers fitted . Could the cone be worn out...what effect would this have?

When is it hitting? Under hard cornering, with lots of weight in the back, when going over speed bumps/pot holes?

Also what width wheel are you running? You may find if you have anything over 6" that they will scuff on the inner arch where it dips down on the outside to meet the body.

It's either your cones or your dampers mate, if, mine was doing exactly the same so I took the hit and renewed the whole suspention on the car because it seriously needs doing,

Check your dampers for leaking
