I am confused by the oil pressure pipe coming from the engine. It's on a 1976 Mini 1000 and it's a thin pipe which comes out the front of the block at the top. There is then a flexible rubber pipe connecting it to the instrument panel. What confuses me is that without the rubber pipe connected the end of the metal pipe looks as though it's been squashed flat but doesn't look as though it's completely closed off. Should it be like this?

Thanks, Paul.

Don't think so, it is sort of cone shaped at the end to help retain the hose, but it should all be round in cross section Minispares do a braided hose to replace the lot, and Venhill sell the same in a huge variety of lengths as their Powerhose Plus brand..

Many years ago I had one break off on a cooper S heading up the old London Road to South Mimms passing the Wagon and Horses Pub.....when you get half a gallon of hot castrol up your fun box, it can be quite an experience.

I'd change the whole lot if it was me....if it breaks in the engine bay and your not a gauge watcher, you could empty the sump.
