hello,

so i got my estate home, after standing a couple of years, got it home and yesterday, i wanted to put a batterij on it and see what worked,

so i connected it up and it did nothing,

it had a minispares solenoid upfront and when i pushed the button it turned the engine over.

but concerning lights and everything it does nothing.

and the ignition switch i don`t get 12 volts on any of the cables.

ive connected the cable that dissapears into the loom on the connection that gets the 12volts directly from the battery, if im correct ?

but i don`t get any volts at the fusebox neither ?

It sounds like a break in the supply. The solenoid would crank the engine as you are making a direct connection.

There should be a connection on both sides of the solenoid, apologies if this isn't right as I run a preengaged starter. But had a job fixing a specialist repair where the guy had cut the wires from the dizzy and starter on a gt converted to preengaged, there was no power at the ignition then either.

I would suggest tracing the wires from the solenoid and making sure nothing is broken or unplugged.

So possibly a cable thats broken inside the loom?

How do you mean fusebox feed is from in side the solenoid?

Gonna mount a brand new one tomorrow. Solenoid

* checks Haynes Manual *

Main battery cable goes direct to Solenoid.

From the same connection, a brown cable goes to the fuse box and another to the starter switch...

also looked into haynes, and think there must be a serious cable fault, the loom also has been butchered a lot.

so will need to cut the loom open to investigate further.

as there is cable leaving the solenoid, where its connect with the cable coming from the battery, that when i put the multimeter on sound it gives a signal on the 2 brown cables at the fusebox, but no voltage.

I don't understand how you can have connectivity (i.e. the multimeter beeps) between the solenoid and the fuse box yet no voltage...?

Are you measuring (Voltage) between the brown wires on the fuse box and a good earth?

i`m measuring voltage on a soldered point on the wire and the earth strap on the engine block to the bulkhead.

and i know its good, cause i measure 12 volt when holding it to the cable from the battery

yes its strange it gives connectivity but no voltage, will try again tomorrow but gives nothing

will get the 2 brown wires at the fuse box tomorrow, seperated and measure connectivity between them, see wich ones gives connectivity or both, also will mount a brand new one...

would the solenoid react different if mounted to the inner wing, mine currently hangs loose...

I said feed off the solenoid not in lol where the mani battery cable connects to the solenoid from the battery + you will find the brown main feed off to the electrics.

Solenoid has to be earthed to the car...

Clean the paint off the wing and bolt the solenoid securely to it....

Solenoid requires earthing in order to work. Self tappers thru it to inner wing normally provide this earth.

Is that the one with the bigger spade connector on it?

Or the one with the ring connector that dissapears in the loom?

No...

The metal body of the solenoid needs to be earthed to the car....

The earth is thru the body of the solenoid, not a separate wire connection.
