Been putting it off for ages but finally started on the wiring tidy up. Thought i'd be able to patch what was here back together but due to everything going off on full left lock?????? and after counting 27 scotch locks have decided to junk the loom. I've labelled everything that I've disconnected and almost got the loom out but I'm undecided as to what to do now as it's had a lot of alterations that will need remaking but properly this time.

Do I buy a brand new loom and modify that or am I best starting from scratch and using the old loom as a template to build my own loom?

Should add it's an '81 car.

Personally what I am doing is replacing it in chunks at a time, it's all chopped and changed, I've got a megajolt and various other stuff, plus I want the fuse box on the inside.

If you're car is standard, and you want to keep the loom standard, I'd be tempted to buy a new loom if it really is that bad.

I don't have any experience in making a full loom from scratch but I've heard it's not as straight forward as it sounds.

Depends on your skills if your ok with wiring then I would either make or repair yours, but a word of caution write down everything and label everything you can and always stick to the correct colours not the rubbish i see just 4 colours used. so often. you can get the correct colours here http://www.autoelect.../66/category/11

Basically it's an ex rally car with all the usual switches and fuseboxes on the dash. Standard fusebox has been relocated so to put it anywhere near how it needs to be would mean a lot of modification and I'm a bit loathed to shell out on a new loom and then start chopping it up. Not scared of wiring so am tempted to pick it apart and use the bare bones of it to make a new one myself.

Four colours would be helpful, it's previous owner decided to do all the modifications with red wire regardless of whether it's live or ground.

All red is never any good...but to build one yourself or source one...I think building you would have more control over cable length, but sourcing one would be easier to replace...

If I had a quid for every car I chop all one colour out of I'd have a 60s S in my garage
