hi guys, so heres my problem

about a week ago i realised that something is draining my battery, and i couldnt figure out what it was. i recently discovered that my amps (or something associated with them) are causing the problem.

when i touch the cable from my amps to the battery terminal there is a spark, even though the amps and stereo are off.

im running a sony stereo with two front speakers connected directly to it. ive then got two amps mounted in the boot, one of which is powering the two 6x9s in the rear shelf, and the other is powering the 1800w sub.

i mentioned this in another thread i started, but thought i should set one up in the proper section.

hope someone can help me

cheers

its probably the second amp that is draining it i have a subwoofer in mine with a built in amp that has live power going to it constant but mine doesnt drain i also have 6x9 speakers and i am just running speaker wires to it. take the amp out thats being used for the 6x9 as you dont need it. or you could put your wires from the 6x9 into the sub amp if that amp is powerfull enough to power all 3.

Put a clamp type amp meteron the battery positive cable which measues DC amps and take a reading and then disconnect the amps and see which is drawing the power

Good advice but worth reminding the OP that a normal cheap AC clamp meter may not read DC amps.

Have you correctly wired the amp to the remote switch on cable from the headunit?
Have you also wired the switched ignition live correctly to the headunit?

If either of these are wired to a permanent live your system wont be full off ever.

Also you don't say if this happens over night or when you are actually driving?

ok thanks mate, ill check that. im off to le mans tomorow though so it will probably have to wait till after but ill update when i can.

the cars not actually been driven yet. ive just finished a 3 year restoration and only got it running a few days ago. basically, if i left the amps connected to a fully charged battery overnight, it would be completely dead the next morning.

Ok so somethings not switching off correctly.

As I said make sure your headunit has the switched live and the correct remote switch cable is connected to the amps.
