Threatening to close a website is a little redundant - if the public access forums are all openly readable, one can simply download the entire website off the domain.

Someone can just download the entire Mk1 Performance website that easily ?

I somehow doubt that.

It can be done! The only issue would be the admin password! but even that is not insurmountable.  ;D

Suggesting website hacking ? Is this the level that TMF usually operates at ?

Its not really hacking if its a public forum. Google downloads forums like this all day, every day. In fact, even if the website does close, companies like Google will keep an archive of the latest version forever.

TotalMINI.com lost their whole forum website recently in a crash and for various reasons it had not been backed up properly so all the post history and membership records were lost........the site has recently re-started from scratch and everybody had to re-join.

We are actively looking into what can be done with regards to the Mk1 forum and TMF. Making comments about what can be done or cannot be done will not help here.

Try to keep your comments helpful and factual. Nobody wants to see something like this disappear as there is a lot of work behind the scenes that goes on that a standard member will never know about.

Thankyou.

I have indeed announced that the MK1 site will all close in October if a satisfactory way forward cannot be found.  I have also, very kindly been approached by Shifty who has made an interesting & helpful proposal. At the moment, my preferted way forward would be for the MK1 Site & forum to remain independant & run by a group of interested individuals. Something I sincerely hope will be achieved.

As far as downloading or hacking the site is concerned, in principal there is nothing to stop someone from having a crack at doing this & I am sure that all my content has been downloaded multiple times, it's just not a very gentlemanly way to behave.

Thanks for your interest,

Mark F

I'd be willing to donate a small amount of money to help it stay up and running, even if I have never been on the site and probably don't intend on doing anytime soon but a one off £5 donation wont really make a difference to me but could make a difference to various other people if the site stays up and running :)

Merge with TMF???

If everyone who was a regular on here put a quid in we could buy the site, give the poor chap some money for his hard work, and we could have an awsome section dedicated to Mk1s!! :D

Thoughts?

Sounds like a great idea, I'd chip in...
