The smaller the turbo, the faster the spool up to get you on boost. In the long run you'll extract more power out of a turbo than you would with a S/C. Personally, I'm going the S/C route with the aim of going turbo in the future.

Think I'm gonna go with 12g940 head, so what will I need do to head and block to make it right? Does block need pocketing and head skimming etc?

just gerneral rebuild stuff, get the block bored to the pistons and new cam bearings put in if they look worn, get the crank checked out and regreound.

If your using a mild enough cam (as you probably will be in a turbo motor) you woint need to pocket the block, I'd sugest poping the cam your gonna use in the block, and pop the head on and rocker gear with some blue tack on the valves, turn the cam over and see how much it swishes the blue tack out...

the head wont need skimming, but may need some material taken out of the chambers to get the compression down, but you need to know the pistion dish first.

Yes the 70773's will be ok, will_h on here ran a set of those for several seasons at 120hp,

with those parts your looking at a compression ratio of about 8.2:1 which is plenty low enough,

So a 998 +20 thou and pocketed to accept 12g940 head with the 70773 pistons, using a 1275 metro camshaft, gt17 turbo, mpi tank and fuel pump, metro fuel reg, metro turbo carb and plenum chamber, std mini gearbox with minispares x-pin diff and that all I gathered ATM, obviously need fuel return pipe into tank?

And okay let's say 100bhp? How "fast" is 100bhp mini?

Thanks

100hp is easily realistic,

100 hp is pretty quick, basically the ERA turbo was a shade under 100hp, and that is booked as 0-60 in under 8 secs and top speed of 115mph, the 998 wont quite have the same torque, but you'll probably have a later car than an ERA, so I think you can expect similar or a bit better.
