the scuttle panel on the right hand side of my mini has started to bubble. on inspection it looks like its rusted from the inide out. It doesnt look extreme at the moment but from reading about it could be a lot worse underneath. Just wondering the aproximate cost of repair for this sort of job?

its ony tha driver side that's effected as it doesnt look like the rust has travelled far enough to warent a complete replacement (its only bubling a little at the join to the a panel). I would expect a section replacement would be enough to fix this one.

If you attack it now you may be lucky.

Get the screen out and see just how bad it realy is. My lad had major bubbling on the lip of his rear side openers and I was expecting a big hole as I took the grinder to it - just nice shiny metal appeared.

So you may find it is not as bad as it looks.

You will also have to change the support panel under the wheel arch too,
As when this rots through, if not checked can lead to the scuttle itself rusting from the inside.

All bubbling rust is a case of rusting inside to out, and will have holes no matter how small.

You can get repair pieces for the ends of the scuttle if it isn't too bad.

To replace the whole scuttle, the screen has to come out, as does the wipers, it has to be ground off from the wings, which can often result in these having to be replaced too (as was the case on my car).

If it is just the ends of the scuttle you should get away with welding in the end repair pieces !!

You could just make that bit in steel yourself, or buy a scuttle corner repair panel, (8 each)

i dont have a garage and have never attempted welding before so will need to get a repair shop to do it for me.
