They dont require them, you need to brush up on a few of current electrical developments which have happened since you last looked.

Thats my point exactly, read what the op said there the leads he has............So he wants un suppressed plugs, which means BP6ES.....

NOT BPR6ES.......... Unless he wants to through out those leads and get new Unsuppressed leads..........

I said "They dont require them"  only in response to you saying use BP6ES. So you need to read what I've written !

You need to brush up on your knowledge on HT Electrics as now the leads are Inductive suppressed, not the older type. The Japanese car manufactures have had them since the late 70s as standard, as are the bulk of Ignition Leads sold by Minispares for the A Series.

I have just connected my car up to the Crypton and ran up 2 sets of plugs on the Oscilloscope, one Resistor and One Non Resistor, the leads are resistive inductive leads and on both sets the reading are between 18-20kv and no difference. The coils a Lucas Sports coil with a 27KV Max output, but there is only 18-20kv requirement to jump the plug gap at idle.

hi, I got the resistor plugs and she's running just as well as yesterday (very well!) i can't tell any differance with the radio although I've never noticed any problems or interferance before anyway. Cheers for the help. Also were much cheaper than usual at just over £4 with trade card so I will probably use these from now on!

Could I use NGK BP6E plugs in my SPI if i have resistive leads? Or should I stick to BPR6ES plugs? Just wondering as I have a set laying around and need mine changing

I'm afraid it could give problems to the ecu due to the RFI.

Not too sure because theres not such a big difference between normal and R type NGK plugs and from memory SPi engines were fitted with high resistance HT leads.

From what I've read, you shouldn't use resistive leads and resistive plugs together?

You cant run them together with points and condenser ignition, especially if using a ballasted coil.

The spi is electronic ignition run by the ECU, and i dont think they fitted copper leads from the factory

Ah ok, sounds like I'll have to stick with BPR6ES plugs then
