Nice Mex there Sean, my RS decided to chuck copious amounts of smoke out from under the bonnet scaring my missus big style. Bless her. Lifted the bonnet and found the bonnet release cable cover badly burnt?? Drove it home carefully with no further issues. Turned out the bonnet stay had not clicked home in the holder and had bridged the positive terminal on the battery and earthed itself through the bonnet stay.

Lesson learnt there then.

I set mine on fire after fitting a map light for the Nav - didn't check where the self tappers I'd used in the metal dash had ended up - one was in fact rubbing the wiring loom. Couple of weeks of that, the insulation wore through, another short circuit & lots of acrid smoke & a few flames inside the car, on what was then the busiest road out of Swansea in the rush hour!! Lesson learnt there too (especially as I had so much wiring to re-do & I hate wiring!)

I remember in the last few years a road rally event towards north wales where the use of the handbrake meant exclusion

How did they know? Dropping down a gear to far would lock the rears as well. Or was it a general warning to keep people from being naughty.

The North Wales Association of Motor Clubs had a problem with the then Chief Constable. He represented a threat to the continuation of road rallying and the Ass'n did a 'deal' with him which included a 'no handbrake turn' agreement.
