Looks like an excellent project mate.

You are really going to have your work cut out with all that rot though. It never fails to shock me how badly these go. Still when done, it will be one valuable car.

I have always wanted to go to one of these dealers you see selling these on eBay and see how much rust and rot you can buy for £10,000!

Still you got it for a good price in my opinion, lets just hope it is as straight forward as possible to fix.

Cheers

Ben

I dont think its going to be too bad to get sorted.  Ive priced up panels at £590 as a mix of genuine and magnum so quite happy with that.  Like you say you could go and spend £8000 on one and poke around to find its not far off mine.  At least starting from scratch you know whats underneath :)

Never a truer word spoken!

I'm documenting my restoration with photos as I may well sell mine when it's done or soon after and nothing shows potential buyers more about a car than photos of its restoration do. Yes, receipts prove how much you spend but photos prove the work that's gone into it and the fact it's been done right!

Ben

Not much done today.  Hopefully get the subframes off tomorrow and get it to a complete bare shell.  Then shall order the panels next week and get the restoration on  its way

Well a little more progress.  Carried on with the stripdown.  Decided to leave the subframes in place for now so i can keep the car mobile.  Yesterday, I chiselled of all the soundproofing off the floor and inner sills making sure there were no more holes.  Instead uncovered two previous repairs.I think its in pretty good shape considering the front of the car.

Good progress, I do love a late cooper sport.

That bulkhead/ scuttle area is terrible though, shocking how bad these late ones rusted.

Keep up the good effort.

2 x Genuine Outer Sills

2 x Genuine Front Wings

2 x Inner sill repair panel

1 x Genuine Upper Dash Rail

1 x Rear Valance

2 x Valance Closing Panels

And have found a company to do me a deal on some more genuine panels so will get those ordered and the restoration can begin

Looks like you have made a good start on those panels.

Personally I'm not a fan of those inner sill repair panels but that's personal preference.

Bet you got a good deal too! I really must get to a show!

Good luck

Ben

I did think shall i do a full outer sill but as its not a massive amount of corrosion i cant justify the extra cost, or weakening the shell by removing the existing.  Its just a bit  easier and neater than welding in a repair patch too i find :)

Oh dear, over two weeks have passed and all i've managed to do is remove the doorskins and start repairs to the bottom of the doors.  But on the plus side a week booked off work in a couple of weeks to make lots of progress hopefully :)

Well I've finally got round to making some progress.  Ill let the pics tell the story so far....

Door bottoms were knackered as were the skins

018_zps334e9878.jpg

removed skin and repaired bottom

Forgot to take pics of repairing the door bottoms but here is the finished skin

and on the car

069_zps1a681a20.jpg

started removing the outer sill and door step

071_zps045e25c9.jpg

072_zpsdb292f1d.jpg

quite bad corrosion here so will cut out and make a piece to go in, ensuring seam line is kept

017_zpse8805d50.jpg

starting to take shape

023_zpsdb44d86a.jpg

025_zpsf20b35ea.jpg

Still need to grind all the welds down and skim over, but passenger side is a lot stronger now :)

Moved onto drivers door

034_zps653e88d5.jpg

035_zps681f9abd.jpg

Then once i saw how it fitted to the original panels i started on the removal of the sill and step

Quite a bit you've managed to get through there - less rust, more metal.
