I recently done the cylinder head on my mini last week, had to change it as i found out that cylinder 1 inlet valve was not seating properly.

 

here is the head refurbished ready to go on

started to take off the carb, ultimate steady, thermostat housing off and leads

also replaced the tappet cover gaskets at the same time as one was leaking quite alot

Good job, it always amazes me how much carbon builds up in an a series engine, I have took other cars apart and nothing compares to the a series for it, I took a k series apart and it was really clean, must be to do with the combustion chamber shape or su carb.

cleaned the piston tops and block then the new head gasket went on 

 

really regret using one of those concertina type by pass hoses

everything nearly back on and ready to run 

 

 

got the engine running but did not last long till the bypass cheap crappy hose started to leak, and found a pin hole in it :(
