Well I'm confused here . I'm going to get a new coil and not sure if I'm a ballast or non ballast user . I have tried reading in google and still not sure :-0 ---___ basically my coil apparently was only running 9volts but the guys at the garage put a 12volt coil on instead because the car felt like it was missing ( only once the lights were switched on ) . I watched as they fitted it and they ran a wire to the fuse box also . My mini is a 1275 with electric ignition . Which Lucas sport coil should I order ??? Thank you

It's an 88 Mayfair but the engine was changed to a 1275 before I bought it . It has electric ignition so no points . That's all I know . I'm leaning towards a non ballast but just want to check .

sounds as if the garage have done a 12v coil conversion and correctly too so basically you used to run ballasted ignition and now you are unballasted.

You definately need to check if its got a leccy dizzy like a 65dm4 or its just a 'standard' points & condenser dizzy converted with an aftermarket kit.

If its an aftermarket conversion, you can run a sports coil, if its a 65dm4 you will burn the ingition module, that dizzy must be run on 0.8 ohm coil only.

this is a 65dm4 dizzy, notice the black box on the side of the dizzy, thats the ingition module:

Heres whats inside the cap of a common aftermarket kit for leccy conversions:

Cap is a screw type which was introduced with the 65DM4 and the distributor body is a 2 piece design, so I assume in the darkness there is also a module on the side, in which case you need the special coil which is a GCL 143

If you dont get the correct coil on it then its going to kill the module.
