How Tight Should My Trunnions Be?

Just re-building my rear subframe ready to put back on the car, and I have a question.  Have fitted poly bushes.  When I tighten the nyloc nut on the trunnion pin, it obviously compresses the bush, tightening the trunnion.  So how tight is right?  Should the trunnion spin and move freely? any sideways movement? Or should the bush be compressed so that the trunnion is held firm and doesn't move?  Advice needed as none of the manuals seem to cover it.

  All the trunnion pins are shouldered, the nut can only go so far.  They will be more mobile (only to rotate though really) with poly than with rubber when clamped up.

The bush should be compressed so that the trunnion is held firm and doesn't move. Do up the nut until it bottoms on the shoulder of the pin.

Dan beat me! No torque quoted, but 25Nm should suffice.

Thanks guys, hadn't spotted the shoulder. Will teach me to be messing with these things at this time of night.

Dragging up a ridiculously old thread here.

Is this the same for the rear trunions too? Tighten until the nut hits the shoulder? It seems to me a lot of force to the point I'm worried about stripping threads

Yes they should bottom out on the shoulder. Note the picture on the parts suppliers pages shows the front bush in the incorrect orientation .  Also subframe should be fitted to the car before final tightening.

Thanks for the reply, just to clarify this is how the front bushes go, the collar of the bush goes this way round?

According to the Rover workshop manual I have that is the correct way.
