Hi I've done a search but can't find a definative answer.

I'm spraying my mini this wknd, and getting the paint today - can anyone tell me how much I'll need. I only need paint for the exterior not including the roof.

The car is fully primed and flatted and will be painted in 2k red.

Any help would be much appriciated.

Simon

I just bought cellulose for my mini, the main body colour, exterior only, without the roof... I bought 2 litres of paint, I don't think it'll take all of it but its handy to have some spare for stonechips and touching up etc.

hope this helps

Cheers Beemerduck,

I've already kind of provisionally ordered 2 litres so I'll confirm that shortly.

Thanks again

Hi
Depending on your skill painting, if you have had practice, 1 litre is sufficient to give you 2 coats,

If you are painting door checks, boot checks and bonnet checks add .25 litrs to it.

If you have ordered 2 litres you will have plenty left, but not a bad idea to keep some for future repairs.

Cheers cooper_shaz,

My painting skills (and equipment) are limited to priming (although I will be having a practice on the roof). The paint guy at work will be doing the body (red) colour coats for me - he said he'd put 3 coats on, is it a good idea/worth it to put 3 coats on or is two sufficient.

Ordered 2 litres anyway - cheers.

3 coats is fine, it will give you plenty coverage, and also allow you to flat back and polish up the car for a mirror finish.

I did a quick guide with pics on there here (click below)

Flatting and polishing guide

Hope all goes well

Cheers,

I did fancy a try at the mirror finish after reading that guide, glad I ordered 2 litres.

Hope all goes well to, if it does then its time for the nice bit of the project - fitting new bits on!

Then a quick mechanical once over before the dreaded MOT.

Cheers again
Simon
