In 1974 when my brother drove my Dad's Clubman Estate for a mile with the handbrake on (wondering what the burning smell was!) - and when (same car) my Dad drove 50 miles or so on 3 cylinders as he hadnt put the HT lead back on one spark plug.  Wasnt my fault, I was only a little kid! :proud:

...when chickens used to be able to cross the road without their reasons being questioned EVERY SINGLE TIME

...when bath and hairwash night was once a week.

...when it was cheaper to buy a 20 year old mini than it is to but a 5 year old BMW.

...when I could manage a whole Boost bar without feeling dizzy at the end.

...when I could remember what was good about the good old days.

This thread got me thinking of a littlle ditty from my younger days :

In days of old, when knights were bold and women were glad of it,

When once a king was a king

and once a night was quite enough!

I have others bit they are not as polite! (No offence to the ladies meant)

You might want to get a diabetes check.

If you feel dizzy and are diabetic then eating the boost bar would actually help

When I used to be on 2 injections a day instead of 4 as I am now .

When insulin came in little glass bottles with orange caps and you have to use a syringe rather than the auto inject pens that exist these days.

Blood tests were taken from your finger and it took 15 minutes with a special machine to get your HBA1C reading as opposed to 6 weeks and having to have blood taken from your arm.

There used to be pictures of disney characters on the ward's walls instead of leaflets showing what your lungs are like because of smoking (I miss the kids ward).

When your doctor was happy enough as long as you were in good spirits instead of making you aim for certain levels of fitness, etc.

Don't even joke, big family history of it.  But I'm good, blood sugar level checked regularly and always OK.  I just think they're SO sugary now that they make me feel sickly.

Parents sayings made no sense :

'stop crying or I will give you something to cry about!'

'Dont come running to me when you fall out that tree and break yer leg'

'you'll have someone's eye out with that - you'll see!'

and more....................

...when the Austin Se7en and Morris Mini-Minor were introduced (I sure wanted one but couldn't afford one on my pay as an apprentice)

...when girls started wearing mini skirts -WOW.

...when lager was considered a 'cissies' drink and real men drank pints of bitter in glasses with handles.

...the first jet airliners flew scheduled flights across the Atlantic. A British aircraft was first, the de Havilland Comet 4. How proud we were of that achievement.

...The M1 was opened and I drove up it on the evening of that day in November 1959 with my best friend in his Renault 750.

...You could buy 4 gallons of petrol for £1. But the average weekly wage was around £14. Work out how many gallons you could buy for one week's wages now.

...My first ride in a 997 Cooper - it seemed so fast after the 850.

...Legally driving a Jaguar 3.8 Mk.2 with a D-type engine legally at 140 mph on the M1 on the evening before the 70 limit was introduced.
