to day I spent all day in setting the clutch cluster pedals up with my daughter as an apprentice everything went in reasonably well and easy and the clevis pins fitted quite easy especially with the locating tool that I had made up even the split pin puller worked ok reason it had to come out I fitted the brake cylinder and forgot to add the engine steady plate ! apart from that its a simple job to do all pipe work in place slave cylinder set up using all the old neoprend pistons cups , same with the master cylinder , all those things will be renewed in the major rebuild of the mini along with a host of other bits , slave cylinder I used the standard size pushrod , (not that silly extended pushrod) that some silly mongrel had extended (another as kicking job , with everything in place it was time to blead the system , this is what took the time to get every bit of air out of the system and setting up the clearances as per factory recommendations , that was fiddley and time consuming . I required every bit of the master cylinder push rod movement to be transferred to the slave and also to slave cylinder push-rod had to transfer as much of the slave cylinder piston movement a possible well I got the movement up to around 9/16 of inch ,,, still not good enough ,,, the next problem was the clutch return arm spring which was very tired although fitted correct was not returning the lever piston rod right back into the slave cylinder took me a bit of time to tumble to this problem ((just a matter of pushing back with the finger on the end of the clutch lever arm so that the clutch slave cylinder push rod went further back into the slave cylinder)) this means a new spring ((or a modified clutch lever bracket to hold the spring in place )) the small dufachat that fits on the end of the clutch lever arm to hold the spring in place ,,, with all that in place and working as it should . I get a nice stroke from the slave cylinder 3/4 inch this is what I expect and nothing less ,,,this is the master and slave working as they should and with the standard slave cylinder pushrod ,,, if a bloke has to extend the master cylinder pushrod HE HAS BIG TROUBLE and if he does not do the job correct he is wasting his time and money ,,, mind you I have the equipment to do the job ... and if a bloke is careful he can achieve very near to my measurement by hand work ,,, machines only make it easier the whole job now is tight no slack in moving joints the next job to do is bleed the brakes and get the steering column back in place and soddin seats in ,,, that's another cockup , and then to start the motor and see what happens still keeping my fingers crossed that the lever will move the gears in place without a nasty crunch I am just hoping that I don't have clutch spin in my day I knew it a a frozen clutch so until my daughter myself and jayson turn the key we wont know ,,, a little story . I heard from a mini motor parts supplier the person advised the purchaser of a clutch slave cylinder ,(if you don't get the required travel on the slave cylinder push-rod remove the circlip ??? ) don't believe what any one says and so called experts ,,,and I aint no expert so its all open to conjecture ... I will be back when the key has been turned with my final findings
