I'm going to post my pictures to Imgur as albums and put a link in because otherwise it will be a long stream of photos.

This is what we started with.

This is after about 10 years of use from us.

The carb is from a massey ferguson, a popular mod for more 'power'. We are looking for a proper brass Zenith but haven't found one yet.

We have some replacement rear lights that are the proper metal casing and glass lenses but they aren't going on yet.

The plans are to rebuild engine, suspension, rear axle, possibly wheels, and a general tidy up

The strip down...

Engine and gearbox out, one person job on these little beasts.

Head and block are off and we are thinking, new valves, rehone bores, skim head.

-New valves bought, head skimmed, block cleaned.

Properly maintained they are reliable. Never broken down in it and we do 1000+miles a year. In standard tune they'll only do 40mph though. Hills can be an issue as well but you can't expect much from a 747cc engine.

I do know of and have driven ones that will cruise at 80

It has a pressure fed Phoenix crank, Renault 4 rods and pistons, custom made larger valves, massive porting on the block, modified combustion chambers, everything lightened and balanced, modern material clutch.
The gearbox is a 4 speed straight cut close ratio item. The diff is a early 30s taller ratio

The crank is finally out!

Due to the unique crankcase, the crank is a bit of pain to get out. I used a hot air gun to gently heat the case and then used a length of copper pipe with the end flattened to knock the bottom bearing out going from the bottom of the case. Then used the gap between the crank and the case to go down through the case to knock the top bearings out. Heat really helped.

Time to send everything off for white metal and balancing

Well, the original crank is cracked in two of the big ends.

£800 later and we have a new pheonix crank. Will be ready to fit next week

Awsome stuff, that poor little crank is dwarfed by the A-series crank next to it, hard to think that'd take the punishment of 4k Rpm+
