just read through your post - what a same about Ruby 1 after all that work - maybe a brighter colour next time!
Great to see your attention to detail - at least the experience of the first build and the shell to refer to must be useful - I'd have welded up a lot of the holes on my shell but by the time l'd stripped it all down I'd forgotten which ones I needed and which I didn't.
I'm surprised you're not having a permanent foglight - especially after being rear-ended before?
Keep up the good work,
JohnR

How come you have a A panel and wing support. Was it a standard thing or something you have added ?

Hi John

Thanks for the comments about Ruby

Jack wants to have Ruby Two the same colours as Ruby,

I could do with something to make more noticeable, although I'm not sure Jack will be using her in the same way as he did before.

James

Id never seen a support fitted before, It was a friend who painted Ruby who told me to fit one.

This is the one that came on the new Heritage shell

Not really doing much

While I'd got the stainless plate out doing the seat belt mounts I made some to replace the standard ones

I wonder why they decided to do that. It would make sense possibly on the sports pack shell. Ah well atleast it's not coming apart at that seam.

Don't think it's anything new, my Haynes mini restoration manual includes a reference to it and that's quite old, certainly pre-dates sports pack.

I fitted the small ones on mine but I did weld it on both sides whereas it looks like heritage only spot welded on the lip.

i believe it is to stop the join from flexing

Perhaps someone had replaced the wings and/or A panels in the past and not replaced them?

I was having a close look at the spot welds on the bottom of the flitch

All looked ok until I had a poke about

Removed the primer to reveal a split caused by spot welding yet again

iyw96Qf.jpg

More seam sealing, Will this ever end

One step forward & one back this weekend

I will have to redo the inside flitch areas after finding the crap spot welds above

Air vent blocking plates fitted, there were originally on Ruby, Feels nice bolting a few bits of her back on here.

Routing the Petrol Pipe

This is the easy side, the newer floor pans have a channel through the front heel section

nxnZXrz.jpg

On the passenger side I want to use the larger strengthening section to keep the brake line out of contact with the floor

If I do this I run into a problem on the Drivers side heel section

I'm going to cut out this area and put in s channel section so as it keeps the brake line symmetrical to the petrol line
